RICHMOND coach Terry Wallace hopes the big stage of Friday night footy against Adelaide can provide a platform for the club's first win of the season.
"We’re really looking forward to it," Wallace said on Tuesday.
"Friday night footy is great if you win, you can relax and watch the rest of the games over the weekend. It's not so good if you're on the losing end. We're looking forward to the opportunity."
Wallace attributed last weekend's loss to having too many "passengers" on the team.
"Some players who were out of form returned to some form … the downside is that we had too many passengers. We had half a dozen blokes who virtually didn't get hold of the ball at all," he said.
The coach also was critical of his side's inaccuracy in front of goal.
"We had seven scoring shots for seven points in the second quarter, which didn’t help us. We were soundly beaten in that quarter," Wallace said.
Wallace insisted that while the team's main goal was to go out and win every week, the club was concentrating on developing a playing style that could reap rewards in the future."You’ve got to get your style in play that you want to play and that'll drive results eventually. We're in a teaching environment at the moment. We've got a lot of guys, I think we had 11 or 12 last week, who have played under 50 games."We've been trying to structure something for the ultimate success, to eventually get a premiership, and that's what everyone should be striving for … that's what all supporters want. We might look like we're a million miles away from that but we've started the process and we've just got to work through the process."
Wallace said that while Richard Tambling was a good chance to return from injury this weekend, Troy Simmonds was still about two weeks away."Troy and Nathan Brown are in the same category. When they come back to play they can’t afford to then go out with that same injury again. Because then you're starting to talk about chronic problems."We've got to make sure that both of them come back and have the timing right that we can get continuity into their football so that when they're back they're back.”
