Tenacious Richmond midfielder Anthony Miles has described the Tigers’ robust display against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval yesterday (Sunday) as a “massive win for us”.
Richmond led right throughout the contest, surviving a scoreless third quarter, to inflict a 33-point defeat on last year’s preliminary finalists.
“When you travel interstate, you know it’s always going to be a tough game, and to win in Kane Cornes’ 300th game . . . We knew we were going to be in for a contest, and we were, and to prevail with the four points is awesome,” Miles said.

The Tigers seized the initiative early, with a 3.4 to 0.3 opening term, which paved the way for their success in hostile territory.
“That (a good start) has been a focus for us, particularly the last couple of weeks,” Miles said.
“We haven’t been starting well, so to start well today, and probably silence their crowd a little bit, was really important to us . . .”
The finish to the match was equally as significant for the Tigers, who piled on 4.5 to Port’s 1.3 in the last quarter.
“We’ve got great belief in each other and in our processes. I think we’ve won seven of our eight last quarters now, so to win again tonight was pleasing . . . We knew that we had the legs to run over the top of them,” Miles said.
Miles again was a valuable contributor for the Tigers, with 26 disposals, including 11 contested possessions and a team-high six inside-50s,
“I’m reasonably happy (with his own performance), but trade it all in for the win, which was what we came over here for. So I’m just happy to go back to Melbourne with the four points,” he said.
