Rising Richmond star Daniel Rioli revealed a key factor behind one of his main on-field attributes, following the Tigers’ JLT Community Series victory over Adelaide at Etihad Stadium last Friday night.
The exciting, speedy, small forward produced an eye-catching performance, with tackling and overall intense pressure applied to the opposition, again being features of his game.

When asked about his tackling ability in a post-match interview on ‘Fox Footy’, Rioli replied: “I played a little bit of rugby back in the day . . . I guess being that small forward, you’ve got to apply pressure. It’s what you get paid to do.”
Rioli, who turns 20 in April, had 16 disposals, including seven contested possessions, six score involvements, three inside-50s, three tackles and 17 pressure acts in Richmond’s 19-point win.
He seems set to take his game to another level this year, after 18 senior appearances in an impressive debut season of AFL football in 2016.
“Playing a few games last year helped me out for this season, to get prepared for what’s to come,” Rioli said.
