Triple Richmond premiership star Shane Edwards has moved into outright 10th place on the Club’s all-time games’ list.
Edwards played his 269th game with the Tigers against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval last Friday night, surpassing Chris Newman (268 games).
He is now just five games behind ninth-placed Dale Weightman on the list.
The 32-year-old recently expressed his embarrassment at being part of that illustrious Tigerland list, in typically self-effacing style.
“I’m sure if we compared the good games played it’s probably a bit different,” Edwards said on SEN.
“It’s been a wild ride. I’ve seen a few wooden spoons and a few premierships . . . I’ve seen it all.”
Edwards, who made his AFL debut with Richmond in 2007, has been a pivotal player in the Club’s three premierships throughout the past four years.
He goes about his on-field business with minimum fuss and maximum efficiency, which is exactly the way he likes it. The football limelight is not for him.
“If flying under the radar means I get to play with some superstars, then I’d take that every day of the week,” Edwards said.
“There’s one name on that list that’s pretty happy to be above me, and that’s Jack Riewoldt. I’m still chasing that one.
“He’s dominating, he doesn’t look like he’s slowing up anytime soon. He’s definitely got a few more games in him, Jack.”
