Triple Richmond premiership pair David Astbury and Dion Prestia now share a rare record at Tigerland following the Club’s back-to-back premierships of 2019-20.

Both Astbury and Prestia were members of those two Tiger flag teams in the space of only nine games.

After playing in Richmond’s 2019 premiership success against Greater Western Sydney, each of them experienced major injury problems during the pandemic-affected 2020 season.

Astbury sustained a knee injury in the Tigers’ Round 4 loss to St Kilda at Marvel Stadium and didn’t return to the line-up until the final home-and-away round clash with Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.

Prestia suffered a syndesmosis injury in the Round 5 victory over Melbourne at the MCG which sidelined him until the qualifying final against Brisbane at the Gabba.

Three weeks later, Prestia and Astbury played valuable roles in Richmond’s 2020 Grand Final triumph over Geelong under the Gabba lights.

Another three-time premiership Tiger in Shane Edwards had just 10 games between being a member of the 2019 premiership side and playing in the 2020 Grand Final win.

The previous Richmond record-holder for least number of games from one premiership to the next was ruckman Brian ‘The Whale’ Roberts with 11 (1973-74).
