Richmond Football Club has appointed former Australian Sports Commission chief executive Kate Palmer AM to the Board, filling the vacancy created after Malcolm Speed completed his term as a director.
Palmer, who was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for services to sport in 2019, brings a wealth of experience to the Board. She chaired the Victorian Institute of Sport (2010 – 2016), served as a Trustee of the Melbourne Cricket Ground Trust (2004 – 2015) and was a member of the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (2010 – 2014).
Prior to her role with the Australian Sports Commission, Palmer spent 10 years as chief executive of Netball Australia, where she was responsible for the governance, development and promotion of netball for 1.2 million national participants.
The Club’s nomination committee recommended Palmer fill the vacancy and it was formally accepted by the Board at its most recent meeting.
“Kate has an outstanding record as a sport administrator from both a Board and executive perspective, and I have no doubt she will make a significant contribution to our Club,” Richmond President Peggy O’Neal said.
“I would like to acknowledge and thank Malcolm Speed for his contribution to the Board during his nine years as a Club director. I am sure that he will look back proudly on what we have been able to collectively achieve during his time as a director.”
