Kayne Pettifer celebrates one of his four goals in Richmond's win over the Kangaroos at the MCG in 2006.

Richmond will have the opportunity to break a rare, long-standing hoodoo in the 2021 season.

The Tigers are scheduled to play North Melbourne at the MCG in Round 21 next year, a venue where they have not beaten the Roos since 2006.

Admittedly, the two teams haven’t played frequently at the ‘G’ over the course of the past 14 years, but the fact remains that Richmond has lost four of its matches against North and drawn one throughout this time frame.

Their most recent MCG encounter was the 2015 elimination final, with the Tigers being defeated by 17 points after leading by 13 points at half-time.

Round 11, 2006 was the last time Richmond tasted victory over North at the MCG – 15.12 (102) to 9.13 (67).

Ruckman Troy Simmonds received the three Brownlow Medal votes that day for his top-class display – 21 disposals, 10 marks, 12 hit-outs and one goal, while forward Kayne Pettifer collected two votes after finishing with 22 disposals, 12 marks and four goals.

To highlight how long ago that clash took place, a 19-year-old Brett Deledio was playing just his 32nd game of AFL football with the Tigers.
