The Richmond Football Club board tonight announced that it has extended the contract of senior coach Damien Hardwick for a further two years, until the end of the 2014 season.

“Damien was appointed two years ago to transform our football team and build a side that would compete with the best in the competition,” said Richmond president Gary March.

“After two years, the board is absolutely convinced Damien is the right man to take this Club forward and, as such, we have extended his contract.

“This two-year contract extension is a reflection of the belief we have in our football program and its capacity to deliver our fans what we all want - finals football.

“It is important to point out that delivering this Club the finals success we all crave, is a shared responsibility. It won’t be one person that delivers us this result. The board, senior management, staff and players all have critical roles to play.

“It should also be said that our fans have played their part by providing us such wonderful support. Our membership continues to build towards 50,000 and we have also received great backing for the Fighting Tiger Fund - a program that is not about being competitive, but about being great.

“Clearly, our senior coach is a critical piece of the puzzle, and he has the absolute support of everyone at the Club as we move into season 2012 and beyond.”
