Richmond is narrowly ahead on the win-loss ratio for preliminary finals throughout its AFL/VFL history.
The Tigers have played in a total of 14 preliminary finals for eight wins and six losses.
They won their first preliminary final in 1919 against Collingwood at the MCG. And, 100 years later, in their most recent preliminary final (2019), they defeated Geelong at the MCG.
The only season previously that Richmond competed in a preliminary final interstate was 2001, when it was beaten by Brisbane at the Gabba.
