Richmond is hell-bent on improving every aspect of its organisation, notwithstanding the team’s excellent second half of the 2014 season.
Riding the wave of a nine-game winning streak, the Tigers secured the last spot in the final eight, making it successive finals series for them for the first time since the mid-1970s.
However, Richmond’s CEO Brendon Gale says the Club won’t be seduced by the performances late in the 2014 campaign.
“It was very pleasing that Damien and the players were able to turn it around, but we absolutely won’t be blinded,” he told Tiger great Matthew Richardson in part two of an interview for Roar Vision.
“We can’t be three and 10 again. It’s unacceptable, and it’s just too hard to find your way back and maintain momentum for a long period.
“We’re certainly encouraged, but we won’t be blinded.”
Gale described Richmond’s achievement of making back-to-back finals as “an important milestone for our Club”, but said it should be treated as a starting point.
“If we’re about building sustained competitiveness and sustained performance, you’ve got to find a way to get into the finals,” he said.
“That almost has to become our new normal. We can’t accept anything less than that.
“We’ve been revealed in the last couple of finals campaigns for our shortcomings. We’ll get better, and we’ll learn.
“What’s so important is the experience. We’ve had the experience, and we’ll be better for it.”
