RICHMOND will leave captain Trent Cotchin in Queensland for its trip to face Port Adelaide as the Tigers manage the veteran midfielder.

The 30-year-old, who has had a run of hamstring injuries over the past two season, is being managed through the AFL's fixture cram.

Cotchin returned from his latest soft-tissue concern to face the Western Bulldogs last Friday and followed up against the Lions on Tuesday, but will sit out the clash with the ladder-leaders.

"He won't go [to Adelaide]. He's probably the one player that we have put a bit of a plan in place in regards to his injury history with regard to his hamstring," coach Damien Hardwick said.

"He won't board the plane but he will obviously be right for nine or 10 days later."

The Tigers have a bigger break after Saturday's clash with the in-form Power, heading back to Gold Coast to take on the Suns on Monday, August 17.

Cotchin is set to be the only Tiger rested for the clash, with dual premiership defender David Astbury remaining sidelined after undergoing arthroscopy on his knee this week.

Hardwick said the clash with flying Port Adelaide, who were too strong for the Western Bulldogs on Monday, loomed as an "enormous challenge".

"They've been terrific. The way they play the game under Ken (Hinkley), they're very explosive and like to use their speed," he said.

"From our point of view they're very, very dangerous. We have to be at our best to deny the way they play and take away a couple of their strengths."
