Dick Smith Rewards School Attendance
Four lucky students from Larapinta Primary School in Alice Springs were rewarded with a trip to Melbourne for the Dreamtime at the ‘G event last week.
Supported by Dick Smith, the NT Government and the AFL, the Outback Tigers program aims to assist schools throughout Central Australia to increase school attendance. The trip was part of a rewards and recognition component of the program.
Larapinta Primary School was selected among schools throughout Central Australia, based on their excellent school attendance of 92% throughout Term 1.
Four students were selected based on their attendance and behaviour, to attend the Richmond v Essendon game at the MCG.
The trip included a tour of Punt Road Oval, meeting players, visiting the Melbourne Aquarium and Eureka Tower, and participating in the Long Walk.
Larapinta Primary School teacher Sue Thomson, who joined the students on the trip, passed on a huge thanks to Dick Smith and Richmond FC.
“I still can't believe what a fantastic weekend Shoneeka, Eddie, Damo, Trevina and I had. I just spoke to Brenda (School Principal) and told her the wonderful things we did,” she said.
“I cannot thank you enough for the time, effort and personal touches you put into this whole program. This trip was something these kids will remember for the rest of their lives. ”
In June, 24 secondary students from Central Australia will visit Melbourne for a four-day leadership camp, as part of the Outback Tigers program.
