Young Richmond defender Matt Dea is using some of his seasoned Tiger teammates as inspiration in his efforts to forge a successful career for himself at the game’s highest level.

The 20-year-old, who played his 11th AFL game in last Saturday night’s Dreamtime clash with Essendon, sang the praises of Trent Cotchin, Brett Deledio and the Club’s captain Chris Newman on regional radio’s “Sports Day” program.

“The reason why we were so good in that third quarter on the weekend was because of Trent (Cotchin), just the way he took control of the game and really stood up as the vice-captain.  He’s taken enormous steps . . . it’s just been great to watch,” Dea said.

“I definitely took a lot of notice of Brett Deledio in my first couple of years, just the way he trains.  He is, without a doubt, the best trainer at the Club, and it reflects on game day as well.

“In terms of my role in the defence, Chris Newman has helped me a lot with watching vision of how I can improve my game.  He’s someone I can learn a lot from.”
