Martin opens up
Dustin Martin, is both remorseful and excited, as he prepares for his return from a Club-imposed two-match suspension.
In an exclusive ‘Roar Vision’ interview, Martin revealed his feelings to Tiger great, Matthew Richardson . . .
“I can’t wait . . . it feels like a month since I’ve played. Been training with the boys the last couple of weeks and just really looking forward to getting back out there,” he said.
“It was pretty hard . . . I was just really disappointed in myself that I let the whole club down - all the boys and the coaches.
“It was tough to sit in front of them and face them, but I’ve learned a lot from it . . .
“ It’s been pretty frustrating training, doing long runs on the weekends, and knowing there’s no other reason why I’m doing it . . . it’s just because of the stupid mistake.
“I’ve been training pretty hard - a mixture of running, boxing, swimming. It’s been like a bit of a min pre-season, but it’s been good. I’ve got a lot out of the last couple of weeks.
“It’s been amazing how much support I’ve had from everyone . . . it’s unbelievable.”
Martin told ‘Richo’ that Richmond’s loss to Gold Coast last Saturday had compounded his disappointment and frustration.
“I felt really bad. I should have been out there . . . it was pretty hard,” he said.
The 21-year-old star’s attention then turned to Sunday’s big clash with the Kangaroos.
“I just want to get out there and give it my all, play my role, though, more importantly,” he said.
“I’m not going to try and go out there and do anything spectacular. I just want to play my role for the side.”
