Tigers, Blues to clash in 2013 opening round
Richmond will take on Carlton in its traditional Round 1 clash in 2013, but it won’t be the first match of the season.
The AFL has released a sneak-peek of next year’s opening round, which will run over two weeks.
The Tigers will play the Blues in an away game on Thursday, March 28, at the MCG, to kick-off the second week of Round 1.
Adelaide will play host to Essendon in the first official game of the new season, on Friday, March 22.
"Scheduling opening round over two weeks enables us to showcase the start of the season on Friday and Saturday night in SA and WA in week one and then schedule the remainder of the matches over Easter in the second week, which will maximise exposure opportunities for the commencement of 2013 AFL Premiership Season," said the League's general manager broadcasting, scheduling and legal affairs, Simon Lethlean.
The full 2013 premiership season fixture will be released later this month.
