Development coach Greg Mellor provides his exclusive summary of how the Richmond-listed players performed at VFL level with Coburg against Geelong last Saturday.

Ben Darrou
Produced a really good performance.  His defensive action off the ball was pleasing, and this is an area of his game that has improved significantly in recent weeks.  Beat his opponent and used the ball well, setting up numerous offensive transitions.

Todd Elton
Had a quiet game.  Worked hard, but was not able to have the influence that he would have liked.

Steve Verrier
A better showing from Steve, playing wing and half-forward.  Kicked an excellent goal roving to Angus Graham and is starting to add goalkicking to his list of attributes.  Also provided his usual run-and-carry through the midfield, and finished with five tackles, which has been a focus of late for him.

Angus Graham
Enjoyed the better ground conditions and rucked well against a couple of quality opponents in Simpson and Vardy.  Also took nine marks around the ground and provided a strong focal point when resting up forward.

Tom Derickx
Was fairly quiet throughout.  Worked hard, but found it difficult to have an impact on the game.

Adam Maric
Spent time some time through the midfield, but was predominantly used up forward, as he wasn’t feeling well.  Still picked up 27 possessions and had four shots for goal, but, unfortunately, they all resulted in points.

Andrew Browne
A really strong game from big ‘Browney’.  Beat his opponents in the ruck and was a valuable contributor around the ground.  The highlight of his performance, undoubtedly, was his two running bounces and baulk of Geelong’s Travis Varcoe, as he carried the ball from half- back through the midfield.

Piva Wright
Another good, solid display.  Defensively, he was very strong.  Has made pleasing improvement throughout the season.  Last Saturday, his ability to gather the ball at ground level, was excellent.  His decision making and ball use also were impressive.

Jake Batchelor
Had a very good first half - in particular, the second quarter - where he picked up 12 possessions.  Unfortunately, an injury that he suffered reduced his ability to run, and he finished the game at full-forward.

Dave Astbury
One of Dave’s best games since his return from long-term injury.  Is getting close to his best form.  Took a number of well-judged, intercept marks and beat his opponent.  Will be pushing for selection in the Richmond side this week.
