Griffiths will be rested this week and return for the Tigers’ final home-and-away round match against Port Adelaide.
“This is my third episode (of concussion) this year, and it was a pretty heavy impact, so I think they’ve just erred on the side of caution and I’ll rest this week,” he told ‘Roar Vision’.
“I’m not too bad. I’ve got a sore side of the face and a bit of a headache, but apart from that, I’m feeling alright.”
The 200cm, 20-year-old, was knocked out after flying over a pack and landing head-first on the Patersons Stadium turf during the second quarter of last Saturday’s game.
“I can’t remember anything from the second quarter . . . quarter-time was a little bit hazy. I can only really remember bits and pieces. I started to see things a bit clearer when I was in the ambulance on the way to the hospital,” Griffiths said.
Griffiths watched a replay of the incident that led to his concussion, while he was recovering in hospital.
“It had already been put on YouTube and I was just trying to work out what I was trying to do. Then I worked out I was trying to go third up in the ruck . . . probably not the smartest idea,” he said.
After being kept in hospital for a few hours of observation, Griffiths was able to fly back to Melbourne with the rest of the team that evening.
“’Reg’(Greg Hickey), the doc, was pretty keen to get me back on that flight because if we missed that, we would have been catching the ‘red eye’ and he said that wouldn’t have been any good for the head. So, we really pushed at the hospital to try and make the flight,” he said.
Griffiths, who was restricted by injury to just nine appearances for Richmond, in his first years of AFL football, has played nine so far this season, in a different role as a defender.
“I think that (continuity) is probably what I’ve had this year, which I haven’t had in previous years,” he said.
“To play more games this year has been really good for my confidence and I think getting that continuity has helped me perform better as well.
“The backline’s been good. It’s given me a chance to have the ball in my hands a bit more, and make a few more decisions. I’ve got to take the kick-outs as well.
“Playing with ‘Rancey’ (Alex Rance) has been really good for me. He’s given me the confidence to do a bit more.
“Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to play with ‘Grimesy’ (Dylan Grimes) all that much because of his ‘hammies’, but playing with him’s really good as well.”
Griffiths, who was recruited to Richmond as a key forward, is unsure at this stage which end of the ground he’ll be playing at in 2013 . . .
“I think ‘Dimma’ (Damien Hardwick) will work that out. I’m happy playing at either end, as long as I’m getting a game,” he said.
