The countdown of the top 20 Tiger trade pick-ups of the past 50 years continues today with No. 18 - hard-running midfielder, Shaun Grigg.

Although he has been at Tigerland for just two years, Shaun Grigg has already had a significant impact.

After managing just 43 senior games with Carlton in four seasons, Grigg, seeking greater opportunities, was enticed to Richmond during the 2010 trade period, in exchange for Andrew Collins.

He settled in extremely well at his new football home, averaging 22 disposals per match in 21 appearances during his debut season with the Tigers and finishing a creditable 10th in the Jack Dyer Medal.

This year, Grigg took his game to an even higher level . . .

In the best season of his six-year AFL career, Grigg played every game, averaging 25.5 disposals per match, with a season-high 37 touches against Melbourne in Round 3.

To further underline Grigg’s overall performance throughout season 2012, not once did he dip below 20 disposals in a match.

The hard-running, 24-year-old midfielder was ranked No. 1 at the Club and No. 3 in the competition for uncontested possessions (411), No. 2 at the Club for effective disposals (429), No. 2 at the Club for total marks (133), No. 4 at the Club for total disposals (576), No. 4 at the Club for inside-50 entries (91), finished sixth on the Tigers’ goalkicking list with 18 goals, and was rewarded for his efforts with fifth placing in this year’s Jack Dyer Medal.

Grigg’s ability to spread from stoppages, find space, and consistently penetrate the Tigers’ forward area with efficiency on his left boot, have made him an important member of the line-up.

If Grigg can maintain his current form level (or go up another cog), it’s reasonable to assume that when the next list of top Tiger trade pick-ups is compiled, he’ll figure a fair bit higher.
