Tigers pioneer sensor technology
Richmond is leading the way in the prevention of lower back and hip injuries, thanks to pioneering sensor technology, created and developed by Melbourne brother
The Tigers are the first AFL club to use dorsaVi’s ViPerform, a wireless sensor technology that allows athletes and teams to accurately measure the movement of muscle activity of the lower back and pelvis.
ViPerform is specifically designed technology for athletes and clubs looking to improve performance and prevent or manage injuries.
The technology is also being looked at by several English Premier League Clubs.
“Four non-invasive, pain-free sensors are placed on the back and accurately record your body’s movement while playing a pre-season game, training at the gym or during a recovery session,” Andrew Ronchi said.
“ViPerform is perfect for sportspeople - that’s why it’s been so beneficial to the Tigers. It can be used to highlight athletes who may be at risk of injury, or utilised to develop a more personalised strength and conditioning program.”
Richmond Rehabilitation and Conditioning Coach, Terry Condon, said ViPerform has been used extensively at the Club during the past few months, and is now a vital component of pre-season training and evaluation.
“The competition is so even in the AFL, and everyone is looking for a competitive edge. For the first time we can see which players are at risk of injury, and modify their training accordingly,” Condon said.
Away from the sporting field, dorsaVi’s products have also been adopted by healthcare professionals and businesses to identify risk, and help prevent and minimise back injuries.blog comments powered by Disqus
