A rare MCG Tiger-Power game
Richmond’s final home-and-away round clash with Port Adelaide on Sunday will be just the fourth meeting between the two teams at the MCG.
The last time Richmond played Port at the ‘G’ was in Round 16, 2007, with the Tigers copping a 55- point defeat - 24.11 (155) to 15.10 (100). Matthew Richardson, in game 250, kicked four goals and Jack Riewoldt, in his third game, booted three goals.
You have to go all the way back to Round 10, 1998 for the previous Tiger MCG victory over the Power.
On that occasion, the home side won by 30 points - 13.19 (97) to 9.13 (67), with the three Brownlow votes going to Nick Daffy for his 33-possession performance, two votes to Wayne Campbell for his 41-possession effort, and one to Matthew Knights (31 possessions). ‘Richo’ took 15 marks and finished with 4.7, while Ben Holland booted three goals.
The only other time Richmond has done battle with the Power at the MCG was in Round 21, 1997.
Star midfielder Paul Broderick received the three Brownlow votes that day, for his 40-possession display, Matthew Knights two votes for his 30-possession effort, and Robbie Powell one vote for his 21-possession, three-goal game, as the Tigers romped home by 85 points - 22.14 (146) to 8.13 (61).
