Derek Eggmolesse-Smith in action against North Melbourne on Saturday night.

With injuries to Trent Cotchin, Dion Prestia and Toby Nankervis and personal reasons keeping Shane Edwards and Bachar Houli in Melbourne, the new-look Tigers have been looking for some fresh faces to step up – and on Saturday night they got it.

Defender Derek Eggmolesse-Smith was super impressive in his fourth game, using the ball superbly from the back-half.

He finished with a polished 23 disposals at 82 percent efficiency.

Shai Bolton was also a strong midfield contributor, using his explosive speed to jump from stoppages, win five clearances and propel Richmond into its forward 50 on numerous occasions, gaining 502m for the match.

“It’s fantastic to see Shai Bolton go through there, 10 contested possessions and five clearances, he’s just got to get fit and used to playing that role," Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said post game.

“We’ve always felt he was a midfielder, we just haven’t had the opportunity to put him in, and this provides that. I don’t want to say it’s the great thing about injuries but it does give opportunity to different players.”

Jack Higgins was another who continued his strong recent form picking up 19 disposals, eight of which were contested, five marks and three inside 50s.

In his third game of senior football, Jake Aarts finished as the leading scorer on the field booting two goals and three behinds.
