The record attendance for a Richmond v Fremantle match is set to be smashed at the MCG this Sunday.
At this stage, the MCC is estimating a crowd of about 52,000 for the big clash between the teams that currently sit fifth (Fremantle) and sixth (Richmond) on the league ladder.
The record attendance for a match between these two sides was set in Round 11 last year, when 43,801 people turned up on a rain-soaked day at the MCG to see the Dockers emerge with a 12-point win.
Sunday’s Round 16 encounter also shapes as Fremantle’s biggest-ever home-and-away crowd.
The Dockers’ record home-and-away attendance figure currently stands at 45,436, from the opening round of the 2003 season, against Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.
Their biggest crowd in Victoria is 45,383, in Round 1, 2008, against Collingwood at the MCG.
Fremantle’s all-time attendance record was established in the 2006 preliminary final against Sydney at Stadium Australia. That drew a crowd of 61,373.
This Sunday, any person aged 15 years or younger can receive a complimentary general admission ticket. Adults can also receive a discount if they pre-book, and pay only $20 for a general admission ticket.
There are also heaps of family friendly activities happening before the game at the ME Bank Centre, including a petting zoo, jumping castle and specky machine. Click here for more details.
