Richmond has selected former Greater Western Sydney midfielder Anthony Miles with its second pick (No. 27 overall) in today’s (Wednesday, November 27) AFL Rookie Draft.
Miles, 21, 179cm and 77kg, was delisted by GWS at the end of the 2013 season after playing 10 games in two years for the fledgling league club.
He averaged 18.3 disposals per match in seven games during his 2012 debut season, highlighted by a 27-possession, six-mark performance against Fremantle in Round 17.
This year, however, Miles spent most of his time either on the sidelines with injury, or in GWS’s reserve-grade side.
Miles, who hails from NSW country town Howlong, just west of Albury, captained NSW/ACT at both the under-16 and under-18 national championships. Following the under-18 carnival, he was selected in the All-Australian team.
He is renowned for being a tough competitor, proficient around the stoppages, a strong tackler, and also capable of playing a run-with role.
