Coburg has finished its VFL alignment with Richmond with a 28-point loss to Port Melbourne on Sunday, in the final game of the home-and-away season.
Richmond will form a standalone team in the VFL from 2014, after being aligned to Coburg in the state’s second tier competition for 13 seasons.
The Tigers put in a spirited performance against their higher-ranked opponent, and trailed by just one point at three quarter time, but conceded six of the last seven goals of the game.
Coburg finished the season with six wins and 12 losses, finishing 13th on the ladder.
The Tigers’ consistent prime movers in the midfield were again influential, with Sam Lonergan, Matt McDonough and Robin Nahas each collecting 28 disposals.
Lonergan and McDonough had 17 clearances between them, while Matt Dea gathered 28 touches in defence in another encouraging performance.
