Nick Vlastuin reinforced his reputation as one of AFL football’s best small defenders with a superb display in Richmond’s win against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium yesterday.
Vlastuin showcased his fine football traits right throughout the match – composure, courage, clever football brain and competent decision-making.
He had 26 disposals, a game-high 15 intercepts, game-high eight tackles, five score involvements, 377 metres gained, and took a game-high 12 marks.
After playing such a vital role for the Tigers in their 2017 premiership year, Vlastuin has started this season strongly, averaging 17.7 disposals, 6.2 marks, 3.8 rebound-50s and 3.0 tackles per game.
Vlastuin’s backline teammate Bachar Houli paid tribute to him in a post-match interview yesterday on ‘Fox Footy’.
“The great thing about Nick, normally he provides us with drive, but he can drop off, take a big grab and he’s a really good tackler,” Houli said.
“So he’s got great signs, both offensively and defensively.”
