Saturday’s Richmond v Essendon blockbuster is set to attract the biggest-ever crowd for a Dreamtime at the ‘G match since its inception in 2005.
And, given the fact Dreamtime 2013 has been declared a sell-out, it could conceivably break the all-time attendance record for a match between the two teams.
That record was set in Round 3, 1982, when 90,564 attended a huge Easter Monday Tigers v Bombers clash at the MCG.
The highest Dreamtime at the ‘G crowd has been 83,563 in 2011, with last year’s match attracting 80,900.
Richmond already has broken through the 80,000 attendance mark twice this season – in the opening round against Carlton (84,247) and Round 4 v Collingwood (81,950).
This is a feat never before achieved in the Club’s home-and-away history in the one season.
