Last weekend, Richmond’s charity partner, The Alannah and Madeline Foundation launched their eSmart Homes initiative, another important resource to help keep children safe from violence and bullying.
Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, an International Patron of The Alannah and Madeline Foundation, along with Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, and Minister for Communications, Malcolm Turnbull and Richmond President Peggy O’Neal, attended and supported the launch in Sydney.
The Alannah and Madeline Foundation developed the eSmart Homes initiative after recognising that the digital revolution had allowed the incidence of bullying to extend beyond the schoolyard.
“Digital technology has become an integral part of our life, opening up a world of opportunities. However, the benefits of technology do not come without risks. It is therefore imperative we educate children – and indeed the adults around them – about how to navigate this world safely,” said The Alannah and Madeline Foundation’s Chairman, John Bertrand AM,.
eSmart Homes is the latest initiative in the world-leading eSmart system, which uses a cultural-change approach to teach Australians to be smart, safe and responsible with digital technology. eSmart is already being implemented in almost 2000 schools nationally and is being rolled-out to all 1500 public libraries.
Richmond President Peggy O’Neal said the eSmart Homes framework is a fantastic initiative by The Alannah and Madeline Foundation, which will play an important role in keeping children safe online.
“The Richmond Football Club and the Tigers in Community Foundation are proud to have The Alannah and Madeline Foundation as their preferred charity partner. We look forward to building our partnership, with the mutual aim of reducing bullying throughout Australia,” O’Neal said.
Richmond has been a partner with The Alannah and Madeline Foundation for two years, and is committed to supporting the organisation to reduce violence and bullying to Australian children by sponsoring schools to implement the Better Buddies Framework, and ensure Richmond players raise awareness about The Foundation’s important work.
