Richmond goalkicking great, Michael Roach, has been elevated to Legend status in the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame.
Roach, who played junior football in Tasmania for Westbury and seniors at Longford, received the prestigious recognition at a gala function held in Hobart’s Wrest Point Casino last Friday night.
The seven-time winner of Richmond’s leading goalkicker award and member of the Club’s last premiership side in 1980, was initially inducted into the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame in 2005.
Roach’s other major football honors include:
- Dual winner of the league’s leading goalkicker award (1980-81).
- Richmond Hall of Fame member.
- Richmond life member.
- All-Australian representative (1979).
- Three-time Victorian State representative.
- Dual Tasmanian State representative.
- Member of Tasmanian football’s Team of the Century.
- Winner of Richmond’s Mark of the Century award.
He also is one of only two players in Richmond’s history (along with Jack Titus) to reach the coveted 100-goal milestone in a season, finishing with 112 (the most ever by a Tiger player in a year) in 1980.
In 200 games for Richmond, Roach booted a total of 607 goals, including bags of five goals or more on 30 occasions, and 10 or more eight times.
Richmond’s annual leading goalkicker award is named in honor of Roach (the Michael Roach Medal).
