Richmond has suffered its first loss of the season, going to down to Collingwood by 34 points at the MCG.

The Tigers led by three points at half time, but the Magpies seized control of the contest in the third term, booting eight unanswered goals.

A couple of late goals gave Richmond some hope going into the last change, but Collingwood managed to hold the Tigers out in the final term and score a comfortable win.

Travis Cloke was the match-winner for the Magpies, booting a career-high seven goals, including four in the third term.

Jack Riewoldt was Richmond’s leading goalkicker with three, while fellow tall forwards Luke McGuane and Ty Vickery kicked two each.

The Tigers’ leading possession winners were Trent Cotchin (27), Brett Deledio (25), Bachar Houli (24) and Shaun Grigg (22).

Dylan Grimes was valiant in defence, while Brendon Ellis, who started as the sub, provided the team with some much-needed run, when he replaced Shane Tuck in third quarter.

Richmond’s task was made more difficult when key defender Troy Chaplin left the field with an injury late in the third term, and Jake King subsequently was forced from the ground with injury.

The Tigers have a six-day break before facing Fremantle at Patersons Stadium on Friday night.
