Richmond coach Damien Hardwick was confident the Tigers would withstand whatever last-quarter specialist Port Adelaide threw at them in the final term of Sunday’s Round 17 clash at Etihad Stadium.
At three-quarter time, Richmond led by 13 points, but Port, which had won 12 of 15 last quarters to that stage of the season, would have fancied its chances of again finishing strongly to take the points.
It wasn’t to be, however, with Richmond outscoring the Power by seven points in the final term – 5.5 to 4.4 – to win by 20 points.
“We’re a good last-quarter side as well,” Hardwick said.
“We always knew if we were in front (at three-quarter time), we’d be a fair chance to win.
“We back ourselves in . . . our fitness has been very good throughout the year.
“I think we’ve had a lot of scoring shots against our opposition, so we’ve just got to continue to work on that . . .”
Richmond has now won 10 of 16 last quarters in season 2014.
