Richmond captain Trent Cotchin has given a resounding seal of approval to the Club’s recruiting philosophy.
The Tigers have taken a selective approach to bolstering their depth of talent in recent years, through the acquisition of mature-age recruits.
They have had success, picking up players such as Bachar Houli, Shaun Grigg, Ivan Maric, Steven Morris and Troy Chaplin.

During the off-season, they continued the trend, trading for Carlton big man Shaun Hampson and drafting the likes of Todd Banfield (Brisbane), Matt Thomas (Port Adelaide) and Nathan Gordon (Sydney) from rival league clubs.
“We brought in some more mature players, as well as a little bit of young talent. So, it’s exciting for us,” Cotchin said.
“It’s great that we’re at a stage where we don’t have to bring too many young guys in and start from scratch again.
“We’re bringing well-respected, good characters into our footy club, as we have done over the past four or five years that ‘Dimma’ (Damien Hardwick) has been in here.
“It’s been a journey . . . we’re very excited about what we’ve been able to achieve so far, but we’ve got a lot more to do.”
