Richmond’s ‘bookend’ stars Jack Riewoldt and Alex Rance received votes in the AFL Coaches Association’s Player of the Year award on their milestone day, against Port Adelaide at Etihad Stadium last Sunday.
Riewoldt, who was playing his 150th game, was awarded five votes for his influential three-goal display up forward by respective coaches Damien Hardwick (Richmond) and Ken Hinkley (Port Adelaide), while Rance, in his 100th appearance, picked up two votes for his sterling job in the key defensive post, restricting Port’s Coleman Medal leader Jay Schulz to just two goals.
The top vote-getter for Richmond in its 20-point, Round 17 victory over Port Adelaide was tenacious, young inside midfielder Anthony Miles, with six.
