Richmond VFL coach Tim Clarke has praised the influence of key players in his side's win over Coburg, and is confident the Tigers can continue their good form in this weekend's clash against Williamstown.
Clarke said that Richmond’s comprehensive win over its ex-affiliate was important after a tough start to the season.
“It was fantastic for the boys to get our first win after suffering a big loss last week,” Clarke told Roar Vision.
“We really wanted to bounce back, and the fact that we were playing Coburg, who we were aligned with over the last few years, made it a big game and a big occasion for our players.
“It’s terrific that some of our guys have found some form.”
Clarke was particularly impressed with AFL-listed players Nathan Foley, Anthony Miles, Brett O’Hanlon and Ben Lennon – but said that impressive displays from VFL players were also encouraging.
“Captain Ross (Young) was very good,” he said.
“James Wall, Ben Waite off half back, Ed Barlow, these sort of guys played themselves into form, which is really good timing for us because we’re coming into a really good side.”
Clarke admitted the clash against an in-form Williamstown would be a challenge, but is optimistic about the Tigers’ chances.
“They’re a very good side, they’re well coached. They’ve got some very good VFL players that have stayed around and can have an impact at VFL level, so we know it’s going to be a real fight,” he said.
“We’re ready to go this week. It’ll be a really good game so hopefully the supporters can get along and help cheer us on.”
