Richmond fans have voted Tigers’ midfielder Dustin Martin as their best player for the 2014 season, with the 23-year-old winning the ME Bank Fairest and Best Award at the Jack Dyer Medal night at Crown Palladium.
Martin was also rewarded for his fine season by securing the Best Offensive Player Award, while Alex Rance won Best Defensive Player, Ben Griffiths was named the most improved player, Anthony Miles was judged best first year player, Jake King won the David Mandie Community Award, and Jack Riewoldt captured a fifth-straight leading goalkicker award.
Martin’s ME Bank Fairest and Best Award was won with 378 votes, 52 votes ahead of Richmond skipper Trent Cotchin (326 votes), with young gun Brandon Ellis in third place on 242 votes.
After each round of the home-and-away season, Tiger fans were asked to vote on a 3,2,1 basis, for the Richmond player they thought performed the fairest and best in the weekend’s match.
Martin had a brilliant season, finishing with the most kicks of any Richmond player (385), and he was also the Club’s second-highest goalkicker with 27.
The Club would like to thank fans who participated in the competition throughout the season. Congratulations to those who won $500 in an ME Bank EveryDay transaction account, and to the major prize winner, Debbie Lineham.
Debbie received two tickets to the Jack Dyer Medal, overnight accommodation, and was given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to present the ME Bank Fairest & Best Award to Martin on stage.
