Richmond ‘Immortal’ Francis Bourke has spoken with pride about the latest honor bestowed upon him by his beloved Tigers.
Bourke was the Club’s ‘Coming Home Hero’ at last Friday night’s big clash with Essendon at the MCG.
Just before the opening bounce, the five-time Richmond premiership star and Tigers’ Team of the Century member, together with his grandchildren, strode back out on the hallowed turf that had been the scene of so many mighty, memorable moments for him throughout a wonderful 300-game career in the famous Yellow and Black.
Post-game, he reflected on the Coming Home Hero tribute, in a ‘Roar Vision’ video special.
“Tonight, I was given the privilege of being a Coming Home Hero . . . Basically, it was an opportunity for a ‘has-been’ like me to walk on the mighty MCG and relive some good times, along with my eight grandchildren, so it was quite a special night,” Bourke said.
“The kids love the footy, and to see them decked out in Tiger jumpers, with my number on it – granddad’s number – was pretty special.
“I’m 67 now, so what have I got to show for my life . . ? Some good memories, some great kids, and some lovely grandkids.
“It’s a great club, and I just hope that they can get the rewards for their hard work.”
