Matthew Richardson gives Tiger fans an update on his AFL Fantasy teams and Superboot selections after Round 3.
AFL Fantasy
I can’t believe it. I have literally made zero progress on my AFL Fantasy team. I got 1840 last week, and 1840 this week. It’s time to get serious.
After all my talk last week about switching my captain to Scott Pendlebury, I forgot to do it – not that I’m complaining because Gary Ablett scored a cool 146 points! I really needed that, given that my forgetfulness also saw me accidentally keep Corey Enright and Brett Deledio on the field. I’m thankful for subs!
The only Tiger in my team, Jack Riewoldt, is slowly making his way up the Fantasy scoreboard, so I’ll keep him around for now. He finished on 88 points against the Bulldogs. Dan Jackson was the top-scoring Tiger from the weekend, with 120.
How about Adam Treloar from GWS – he had an absolute blinder. He was the comp’s top scorer this week with 159, followed by Brisbane’s Tom Rockliff on 157 (who I traded last week when he was suspended and I still had unlimited trades - another rookie mistake). I actually tried to name my team “Richo’s Rookies” to set the bar low, but some other Richo had already taken it.
Wish me luck for Round 4 – and if you have any advice, send me a tweet!
Superboot
It was an okay week for me with Superboot – I dropped from 11th overall to 19th overall. Still not bad, out of 3000 participants.
I picked young Jeremy Cameron this week – I thought he would kick a bag against the Demons, the way that GWS are going early in the season. He kicked two goals, which is not too bad, but not quite good enough for me to hold onto my spot.
This week’s leading goalkicker was Jamie Elliott from Collingwood with five goals, while eight different players kicked four.
This week, I am thinking of going with Tom Hawkins. The rule in Superboot, which is actually really good and makes it quite strategic, is that you can’t pick against the same player more than twice. So you can’t just continually pick the full-forward playing against the team at the bottom of the ladder. So, my theory is that I need to pick someone playing against a similarly positioned team on the ladder each week. Geelong vs West Coast is a good example, and Hawkins kicked four last week.
I haven’t made my mind up completely though. I think Nick Riewoldt might have a good one against Adelaide too, so he is in the mix! Stay tuned.
There’s still time to join both comps – click here to play against me in Superboot, and click here to join me in the Richmond Fan League in AFL Fantasy – the invite code is WJR2NJ3H.
Happy fantasy coaching!
