Richmond veteran Chris Newman is making steady progress from a calf injury that has sidelined him since Round 7, and anticipates being ready to resume playing in a couple of weeks.
Newman, who turned 32 on May 18, doesn’t subscribe to the theory that his calf complaint is a signal that his playing days are numbered.
“I’ve heard that about a thousand times, the old man injury,” Newman said on ‘K-Rock’.
“Hopefully, it’s just an isolated injury . . . that’s my positive thinking, anyway.
“I haven’t had a soft-tissue injury before that, so it’s a new experience for me.
“It’s a bit of a slow process at the moment, but I got to full speed today (last Saturday) and did some agility and some football stuff.
“I’m not too far away . . . hopefully, the next couple of weeks. Whether that’s through the VFL or straight back in, I’m not sure what the plans are.
“Just getting the body right is my main focus at the moment.”
The 240-gamer admitted having major frustration sitting in the stands, and watching helplessly, with the Tigers struggling to get their season going.
“Horrible, I am . . . a shocking spectator,” Newman said.
“It’s very, very easy sitting in the stands. It’s an easy game, so you do get frustrated at times.
“I certainly like to be out there and in control a little bit more.
“Hopefully, I’m not doing that for too much longer.”
