VFL and development coach, Craig McRae provides an exclusive summary of the AFL and VFL-listed players from Saturday’s Round 11 VFL win over Essendon.
AFL LISTED PLAYERS
Taylor Hunt
33 disposals, five marks, three tackles, one goal.
Continues his great form at VFL level. He’s been one of our best players in recent weeks and today he really looked strong off half-back and used the ball really well. A complete game from him.
Anthony Miles
33 disposals, six clearances, four marks, three tackles.
Continues to play great football, with disposal numbers over thirty. Both his contested and outside ball was really strong. A terrific game.
Jacob Townsend
25 disposals, nine tackles, five clearances, one mark.
Played mostly midfield and a bit of forward. Hard at the ball and that showed with his tackle count. He competed hard for us, and was a really important player on the day.
Nathan Broad
22 disposals six marks, two tackles.
Started down back, and was very solid, hardly letting his man get a touch. We moved him forward for a bit, and he impacted that part of the game too. A really solid performer with over 20 possessions.
Jack Graham
17 disposals, eight tackles, six clearances, one goal.
Played his first full game. Had excellent balance with his clearances and tackles and covered the ground well with his hard running. A very important player.
Jake Batchelor
14 disposals, two marks, two tackles.
Played down back for the whole game. Ebbed and flowed in terms of impacting the game, but when the game was on the line in the last quarter, he was a rock, and they couldn’t get past him. An integral part of the result.
Ryan Garthwaite
11 disposals, five marks, three tackles, two goals.
Played the game as a forward for the second week in a row. He impacted the scoreboard well this week which was pleasing to see. Looks promising in that role.
Ivan Soldo
Six disposals, 25 hitouts, four tackles, two marks.
Played mainly in the ruck. Probably had the most hitouts he’s had in a while, against quality opposition in Leuenberger and McKernan. His contested marks were a feature as well.
Mabior Chol
Five disposals, three marks, one goal.
Played in the backline for the first half, and we moved him forward for the second. Kicked a nice goal at an important stage of the game. The ability to play at both ends is going to be integral for his future.
Ivan Maric
Five disposals, 18 hitouts, three clearances, two tackles.
Played ruck and forward this week. Didn’t impact the scoreboard, but he was another that played his role with his hitouts and clearances, which was vital in the game.
VFL LISTED PLAYERS
Jake Aarts
19 disposals, three tackles, two marks.
Played as a forward, competed hard and tackled well. Provided plenty of fight and scrap for us, and to have almost 20 disposals as a forward is great.
Jacob Ballard
19 disposals, seven clearances, three tackles, two marks.
One of the best VFL players in the competition at the moment. Provided plenty of hard running to help out the backline, which was a real feature of his game.
Danko Bzenic
16 disposals, four marks, one clearance, two goals.
Came in for his first game. Played forward, and his fight for the outside was very strong. Kicked two very good goals, one in a crucial stage of the game.
Anthony Scott
16 disposals, two tackles, one mark.
Came in and performed well for us. Played in the backline against Jackson Merrett and kept him reasonably quiet. Merrett ended up with a couple of goals, but Scotty did a great job in a really important role for us.
Ryan Bathie
15 disposals, five marks, one tackle, two goals.
Playing great football at the moment, probably the best I’ve seen him play in a number of years as a VFL tall forward. Really well organised, and his run-down pressure was evident as well. He’s in great form.
Hugh Beasley
15 disposals, four marks, two tackles, one clearance.
Did a great job on their talls. Made it difficult for Leuenberger and McKernan to have an influence on the game when they went forward. An integral part of our backline.
James Fletcher
15 disposals, three marks, three tackles, one goal.
Came in for his first game in a few weeks. Played on the wing, stuck to the structure well, and added plenty of width in his role. His disposal count shows his good output for the day.
Tyson Kruse
13 disposals, three tackles, two clearances.
Came in to perform multiple roles for us. We used him as a tagger on their inside mids, and also played him down back when needed. He was an important role player for us.
Shaun Mannagh
13 disposals, four tackles, three marks, once clearance.
Came in for his first game, and played on the wing. Really good to see him playing to his strengths and running hard. He’ll be better for the experience.
Thomas Silvestro
11 disposals, five tackles, two marks, two clearances.
Played on the wing. Provided plenty of hard running and helped out the defence. He’s a player who the guys love playing with, and is one of the most important players in our team.
Jayden Cass
Seven disposals, two tackles, one goal.
Played his first game for a number of weeks. Managed to get himself a goal, and his pressure around the forward line was important for us.
Daniel Coffield
Six disposals, five marks, three tackles.
He’s very hard to play on at the moment. Not huge numbers stats-wise, but his ability to win one-on-ones is a real strength.
Max O’Sullivan
Four disposals, two marks, one goal.
Max started the game well, but unfortunately couldn’t finish the game after getting a knock to the head.
