Experienced Richmond defender Troy Chaplin believes the Tigers’ impressive last-quarter performances this season are the product of a strong pre-season preparation.

Richmond won 15 and drew one of 22 final terms during the home-and-away season.

The Tigers scored a total of 81.58 compared to their opponents’ 49.54 in last quarters throughout the year.

Over the final four rounds (against Gold Coast, Collingwood, Essendon and North Melbourne), they compiled 29.4 and conceded just 7.9.

“It seems a mile ago, but pre-season was pretty solid this year and we think we’re one of the better finishing teams in the competition,” Chaplin said on 3AW.

“So, if we’re around the mark at three-quarter time, or in front, we’ve got the confidence to hold on.

“But we’ve got to do our work early as well, and give ourselves every opportunity to get ourselves into that position.”
