The footy gods giveth and the footy gods taketh . . .
David Mundy’s goal after the final siren to clinch a two-point victory for Fremantle over Richmond at the MCG yesterday, came exactly one year to the day since Sam Lloyd performed the same feat to lift the Tigers to a memorable one-point win against Sydney, also at the ‘G’.
The degree of difficulty for Lloyd’s match-winning, after-the-final-siren, set shot was undoubtedly greater . . . a fair bit further out and a tighter angle. And it happened at the Punt Road end of the ground, compared to Mundy’s kick, which was from the city end.
Nevertheless, the fact both dramatic goals occurred in Round 8 of the season on May 14, precisely 12 months apart, is uncanny.
