The potency of Greater Western Sydney’s forward line duo of Jeremy Cameron and Cam McCarthy has not gone unnoticed at the ME Centre this week.
The pair has one of the most productive partnerships in the competition so far this season, combining for 64 goals (Cameron with 35 and McCarthy with 29).
No defence has kept either player goalless this season, and Cameron has booted bags of four or more on four occasions, including seven against Hawthorn in Round 6.
“The way they play probably suits his style of football very well. He gets behind defences, and he can take a big mark,” Richmond assistant coach Brendon Lade told Roar Vision’s Matthew Richardson on this week’s edition of the Spotlight show.
Watch: Damien Hardwick spoke to the media at the ME Centre on Thursday
“He gets a lot of goals from the ground as well, so he can crumb. Not many key forwards can do that.
“He’s a guy we have to be on our guard for, and he’ll be a good match-up for ‘Rancey’.
“I think ‘Grimsey’ played on him last year and did really well, so we’ve got a plan B there if Rancey isn’t going well.”
In his second year at AFL level, McCarthy has averaged an impressive 2.5 goals, five marks and 11 disposals per match.
“He’s shown he can kick a lot of goals. He doesn’t miss goals either. He kicks pretty straight,” Lade said.
“When he gets the opportunity he’s really good. He’s someone we won’t be taking lightly, and putting a bit of work into.”
