Talented, young Richmond utility player Ben Lennon made the most of only his second senior league appearance this season, with an impressive three-goal performance against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium last Sunday.
Lennon, who was the Tigers’ first pick (No. 12 overall) in the 2013 National Draft, was recalled to the main line-up for his first senior game since the Round 5 loss to Geelong at the MCG.
He showed his class with three goals in the first three quarters, including a brilliant snap over his shoulder just before three-quarter time, before being restricted with a bit of cramp in the final term.
“Benny’s sort of been thrown around a little bit this year back in the VFL, just trying to create his craft, I suppose, and whether it be half-forward or on the wing, he’s been playing some really good footy back there,” Richmond captain Trent Cotchin said on 3AW.
“So, he took his opportunity, which is what we expect of guys coming in.
“Hopefully, it’s a good lesson for our other guys, who are just on the brink of breaking into the senior side.
“If you’re given that opportunity, you need to make sure you take it with both hands.”
