Richmond vice-captain Ivan Maric strongly believes the Tigers’ culture will ensure no blame is directed at rebounding defender Bachar Houli, whose turnover from a kick-in, with just over a minute remaining in last Saturday’s match against Fremantle at the MCG, resulted in the winning goal for the Dockers.
“He cares so much about the Richmond family and the team, so after the game he was hurting a fair bit,” Maric said on Channel Nine’s Sunday ‘Footy Show’.
“But the reason why we’ve improved so much as a side is we haven’t blamed anyone.
“We’ve always looked in the mirror like men, spoken to each other face to face like men, and just focused on continuous improvement.
“And, that’s what we’ll do after this game. We’ll review it . . . and do those things.”
Maric also revealed that he provided on-field consolation for star Tiger forward Jack Riewoldt after the final siren.
“Jack’s a super-competitive guy and I could see that he was getting a bit emotional about the whole thing,” he said.
“I was hurting as much as him, but I just got around him and supported him . . . That’s like what I did with all my other teammates as well.”
