Richmond’s star key defender Alex Rance scored the equal-most votes in the AFL Coaches Association’s Player of the Year award for the Round 2 clash with the Western Bulldogs, despite being on the losing team.

Rance received nine votes from respective coaches Damien Hardwick (Richmond) and Luke Beveridge (Western Bulldogs) for his outstanding effort in the back half for the Tigers right throughout the contest.

He finished with 28 disposals, including a highly-impressive 13 intercept possessions and a game-high 13 marks, as he repeatedly turned defence into attack for Richmond through his dominance.

The only other Tiger player to feature in the Round 2 AFLCA Player of the Year voting was dynamic midfielder Dustin Martin, who polled one vote for his strong 31-disposal display.

Bulldog vote-getters were Marcus Bontempelli (nine), Tory Dickson (six), Robert Murphy (three) and Matthew Boyd (two).
