Victorian fans taking public transport to games this year will face delays and should allow extra travel time.

Upgrades are now taking place on several metropolitan and regional train lines, with commuters having the option of taking replacement buses.

The majority of this round of upgrades will finish by the end of round five, but there are likely to be other works throughout the rest of the season.

ROUND 2 Upgrade to a reserved seat or buy your tickets at ticketek.com.au

Public transport users are recommended to check the news and events page of the Public Transport Victoria website and plan ahead to ensure they make it to matches on time.

"We encourage footy fans to check if their line is affected by any works and allow extra travel time if the match they are attending is impacted," PTV CEO Jeroen Weimar said.

"Replacement buses will be provided to ensure everyone can get to and from matches and we will have extra staff on the ground to help passengers know where to go."

Affected matches include this Thursday night's blockbuster home game against Collingwood at the MCG, with travel options available on our Game Day Hub.

"It is important fans check the PTV website prior to each game they are attending, as disruptions may change from match to match," AFL general manager of clubs Travis Auld said.
