Star Richmond midfielder Dustin Martin has powered his way into fourth place in the prestigious AFL Coaches Association’s Player of the Year award following yet another perfect score this season.
Martin received the maximum 10 votes for his dynamic display in the Tigers’ 42-point victory over Brisbane at the MCG last Saturday.
He had a game-high 35 disposals, including a game-high 10 inside-50s, an equal team-high six clearances, 10 score involvements, a game-high 729 metres gained, and took seven marks.
Rival coaches Damien Hardwick (Richmond) and Justin Leppitsch (Brisbane) duly rewarded him with 10 out of 10 in the Round 14 AFLCA Player of the Year voting.
Martin now has a total of 56 votes in the award this season – 10 behind the leader, Geelong superstar, Patrick Dangerfield (on 66).
Top Tiger key forward Jack Riewoldt was acknowledged as the next best player on the ground last Saturday, picking up five votes after finishing the match with 21 disposals, including a team-high 12 contested possessions, a game-high 15 score involvements, a game-high 10 marks, a game-high nine marks inside 50 and four goals.
Four votes went the way of Richmond’s consistent performer Shaun Grigg, who had 27 disposals, including eight inside-50s and eight score involvements, along with five marks.
The Tigers filled all the other spots in the voting for the match through Brandon Ellis (three), Nick Vlastuin (three), Trent Cotchin (two), Anthony Miles (two) and Connor Menadue (one).
