Richmond ruckman Shaun Hampson has not been ruled out of this Friday night's Round 15 clash against Port Adelaide after irritating the medial ligament in his right knee.
Hampson aggravated the injury in last Saturday afternoon's win over Brisbane at the MCG and Richmond Physical Performance Manager Peter Burge declared the Tiger tall would be assessed during the week.
“It didn’t look great but he’s actually moving around quite well so it’s really just an assess during the week,” Burge said.
“Hopefully we can get him up doing a little bit of running tomorrow and we’ll make a judgement on whether he plays this week or not.”
Burge said defender Jake Batchelor was also a test for Friday night’s clash at Adelaide Oval.
Batchelor’s back seized up at training last Thursday and he was a late withdrawal from the side that went on to defeat the Lions.
“He’s a little bit better but he's still going to need to jump through a few hoops this week and show us that he can function and he'll be able to play, so he’s a test at this stage,” Burge said.
Ben Griffiths will be available for selection after recovering from an illness, while fellow forward Ben Lennon has trained well and is expected to make his return from a shoulder injury via the VFL this Sunday.
The news is not as good for young midfielder Corey Ellis, who will miss at least the next one to two weeks with a groin complaint.
“Corey has developed some groin pain recently and with young players we tend to take that quite seriously,” Burge said.
“He’s a young player, we don’t want to push too hard. At the same time, we’re doing everything we can to get him back playing, but with groin pain, we have to respect it and we look to hopefully see him in a couple of weeks.”
Rookie Mabior Chol rolled his ankle playing in the VFL last Sunday, however Burge was hopeful he would take to the field in this Sunday’s match against Casey.
