Richmond Board member and former player Emmett Dunne has joined his 1980 premiership teammate Michael Roach as co-patron of the Club’s Bequest Society.

Dunne accepted the role following the recent passing of inaugural patron Neville Crowe, who established the program in 2008, with the focus on the advancement, development and longevity of the Club to provide enjoyment for current and future generations of Richmond supporters.

Crowe was the inaugural patron, before Roach was appointed co-patron at the end of 2014.

Dunne, who joined the Tigers’ Board in September, brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to the position.

He played 115 games for Richmond between 1976 and 1983 and was a member of the Tigers’ 1980 premiership side.

He returned to Tigerland to coach the reserves side from 1988-1992 and also served as the Club’s ruck coach from 1993-1995.

Dunne said it was an honour to continue Crowe’s great legacy.

“The Club, through the tremendous work of Neville Crowe, established its Bequest Program to forever ensure that our children, grandchildren and the future generations to come retain the opportunity to be part of something great and forever roar the words ‘Yellow & Black’,” Dunne said.

“Supporters and members have been a driving force in forging the magnificent history of our football club.

“I first arrived at Tigerland as a wide-eyed 14-year-old and went on to play in premierships in the under-19s, reserves and seniors.

“As a consequence, the Club has had a huge impact upon me and I’m now at a stage in my life where I can give back to the Club that has been so great to me over more than 45 years.”

Dunne’s first official function as co-patron will be at the annual members’ lunch on Wednesday, December 7.
