Talented, young Tiger Nathan Drummond made a successful return to the playing field last Saturday after spending 13 months on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.
Drummond, who ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during his senior debut for Richmond early last season (Round 4, 2015 v Melbourne), played the first half of the Tigers’ VFL game against Essendon at Punt Road.
The 21-year-old had a decent impact, too, picking up 14 disposals, including three inside-50s, and taking five marks in his restricted game time.
After the match, he spoke to ‘Roar Vision’ about his long-awaited comeback match . . .
“The feelings going into the game were pretty nervous, but just tried not to over-think things and go out there and play my natural game,” Drummond said.
“The coach’s message was just play on instinct and not to have too many expectations, because I’ve been out for a long time and I could be a bit rusty . . . let the game come to me, and just enjoy it.
“I pulled up pretty well, not too sore, which is a positive thing. So I should be fresh for next week.”
Drummond now has his sights set on increased game time when Richmond’s VFL side takes on Coburg next Sunday.
“Hopefully, I’ll play maybe 80 percent of the game,” he said.
“As long as I get through that, I should build on it the following week.
“So pretty positive news, I guess, coming out of that.”
