Reigning Brownlow Medallist Patrick Dangerfield closely observed Richmond’s display against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium last night, and really liked what he saw from the Tigers in their 35-point win.
The champion Geelong midfielder, who was providing special comments for radio station 3AW throughout the match, highlighted the harmony within the Richmond playing group.
“It just looks to me like this is a team where everyone understands their role, from the midfield, forward, defence,” Dangerfield said.
“Their defence remained connected through the entire night.
“(Alex) Rance is obviously the general down there, and his direction obviously plays a huge part in that.
“But this was a really impressive performance . . .
“It was tight until half-time, but after that – that third quarter – it was all Richmond. And, in the end, it was a really comfortable victory.”
Dangerfield also rated the Tigers’ overall evenness against North as an extremely positive factor for them underlined by the fact they had 10 individual goalkickers out of a team total of 14.
“I think that’s what Damien (Hardwick) will be most pleased about . . . the really even spread,” Dangerfield said.
“It wasn’t one commanding performance from one player – it was the entire group. And, if you’re going to be a successful side, that’s what you need . . .”
